May 7, 2020 End-of-Year Calendar

The last student day of school for the 2019-2020 school year will be June 8, 2020. There currently is great uncertainty surrounding end-of-year activities for all grade levels but especially for the Class of 2020. It is our hope that end-of-year activities will be held in person as always. It is likely in our region of Pennsylvania, however, that some forms of mandatory social distancing will still be required. Plans for virtual and modified activities are being made.  Updates will be provided to our students and community in the coming weeks.

April 29, 2020 SAT ACT Registration

Updated: 4/30/2020 6:45PM

SAT

Abington Heights High School will host SAT testing on August 29, 2020.

The following is from the SAT (College Board) web site:

If it’s safe from a public health standpoint, we’ll provide weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes a new administration on September 26 and the previously scheduled tests on August 29, October 3, November 7, and December 5.

Students can register for these administrations starting in May. We’ll contact students directly during the week of May 26 to provide an exact date. Eligible students can register with a fee waiver.

For each administration, we’re preparing to significantly expand our capacity for students to take the SAT once schools reopen. We’re calling on our member schools and colleges, as well as local communities, to provide additional test center capacity so every student who wants to take the SAT can do so.

Students can get early access to register for August, September, and October if they’re:

  • Already registered for June
  • In the high school class of 2021 and don’t have SAT scores

For the SAT: Abington Heights Center Code 39200

ACT

Abington Heights High School will also host ACT testing on June 13; July 18; and September 12. Registration on ACT’s website is open now. ACT testing can be a good alternative to SAT tests.

For the ACT: Abington Heights Center Code 183750

ACT Registration:
Schedules may change based on social distancing requirements.

Xfinity has created a website with details including a coverage map to assist those wishing to gain access.

Families that qualify can receive free internet for 60 days in their homes with subsequent payments of $9.95 per month through the Internet Essentials program offered by Comcast. Families can learn more and fill out an application by visiting the Internet Essentials website.

Abington Heights School District

Community Announcement

August 26, 2020

Abington Heights School District will open for its first instructional day of the 2020-2021 school year on September 9, 2020. While virtual learning is no substitute for being together in person, our teachers, administrators and staff look forward to welcoming our students back in two short weeks.  All students will follow a defined schedule of live lessons, which will also be posted for on demand access.

Families can mark October 5, 2020 on your calendars for our in-person return to school using the hybrid model. In order to maintain appropriate social distancing, students will attend school in-person two days per week and virtually on the other three days. Schedules will be sent informing students if they will be in school on Mondays/Tuesdays or Thursdays/Fridays. Our in-person return is dependent on no significant changes in community transmission of COVID.

Finally, Abington Heights School District has just completed its transition to a new student information system. Nearly everyone is familiar with the parent/student portal in our now retired “Sapphire” system. I am pleased to report that the portal is now up and running in our new “Infinite Campus” system. Our hope is that students and parents will have a better experience accessing important information including through our new mobile apps. Prior to 1:00PM today, specific information regarding how to access the Infinite Campus Portal will be sent to parents’ email accounts of record.  If you do not receive an email by 1:00PM or if you experience technical challenges, kindly email AHCampusHelp@ahsd.org for assistance.

Michael Mahon, Superintendent

Back to School...Fall 2020

Getting all of our students back to school every day is where the Abington Heights School District is planning to go. The best way to achieve that goal is to take a step-by-step approach that gives us the greatest chance at success. The first step for the fall of 2020 is a virtual return to school beginning on September 9, 2020. All students will be connected to Abington Heights teachers on Day 1. Our plan is to get off to a great start on-line and begin to phase students back into the classroom as early as late-September. Of course, we will base these decisions on circumstances in our community and region. We know getting back to school is important, but we have to do it right. We also know that some parents and students will want alternatives even when our buildings are open to students. We have those options ready. There is a lot of information that we will communicate to you in the coming days and weeks. We want to get started now to make sure we are set to go on Day 1, September 9, 2020. You’ll see lots of information on this website. Remind notifications will be sent for important tasks and deadlines. Stay tuned. Stay engaged. Much more to come...

AHSD Offices Open

All Abington Heights School District offices are now open from 8:30AM to 3:30PM Monday through Friday. In order to promote social distancing, members of the public are encouraged to call in advance to arrange an appointment. Facial coverings are required. Anyone in need of assistance can also send an email to ahsdinfo@ahsd.org

School Board Statement regarding Superintendent Transition

August 10, 2021
On August 9, 2021, Michael Mahon, Ph.D. was selected to be the new superintendent for the Southern Lehigh School District. Abington Heights flourished under Dr. Mahon’s leadership. He worked tirelessly on behalf of our students and community. The Board is very grateful to Dr. Mahon for his seventeen years of devotion and diligent leadership particularly during the most recent period of significant challenges due to Covid. He will surely be missed. We wish him the very best, now and always.

Dr. Mahon is fully committed to leading the District through December 9, 2021 and supporting a smooth leadership transition prior to his departure

Dr. Mahon states: " It was the privilege of a lifetime to be able to watch and observe, and witness really, the achievements of our school board, of our administrators, of our teachers and staff — and most of all, of our students and their families.

The Board intends to undergo a comprehensive search for Dr. Mahon's permanent replacement. In the coming months, we will be updating the community as we develop a plan towards that end

Sincerely,

Abington Heights School District Board of School Directors
