This program will enable the student to understand and appreciate the scientific aspects of our environment and the role of science in the development of our everyday civilization.  Applied chemistry is for those students who intend to improve learning skills in organization and analytical thinking which are prerequisite for higher-level sciences.  Students learn to apply basic scientific reasoning to decisions that must be made utilizing the best information available in everyday living experiences.  Sufficient fundamental theory and interest-arousing descriptive material is provided to make this course a complete and thorough program.  Instructional strategies to be utilized place the emphasis on the laboratory approach which provides an increased understanding of the work of a chemist and other scientists.  It is recommended that the student has and knows how to operate a calculator for use in various areas of this course.
