Bodyweight exercises

This page is dedicated to a series of exercises that you WILL be doing, in great numbers, from the first day of practice through your season. You can belong to one of several camps on strength training. Camp one, a la Matt Furey, believes that one can and should develop strength through bodyweight exercises alone. Done properly, there is every bit of evidence that you can develop terrific strength and muscular endurance using only bodyweight exercises. However, we are not talking a couple of pushups between commercials. Carey Kolat (4X state champ, National Champ Lock Haven, Olympian) did 1000 pushups every day!

Many experts believe that you can gain strength by always challenging your muscles in different ways. Using a combination of bodyweight exercises and free weights, kettlebells, clubbells, etc can produce excellent results. Our weight lifting program is designed to use heavy weights and dynamic, explosive lifts. You could always follow a weight training session with high reps of bodyweight exercises.

Since placing photos on this page would only provide a rudimentary understanding of the great many exercises we routinely use, we feel it would be best to get direct instruction from the coaching staff. The Bodyweight Routines page is well populated with combinations of exercises that can be endlessly challenging once you learn the exercises. Our Strength Training page is also complete and includes many uses for bodyweight exercises.

Coaches would be happy to provide instruction to any athlete who is interested. It's up to you to ask!
